Review on Coralife 05692 Pure Flo 50 Gallon System by Lacey Rinehart

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works as advertised, leaks as mentioned by other reviewers

I took the advice of other reviewers and removed all the canisters, taped the strings and reattached them. I haven't had any problems with leaking water from canisters. Unlike other reviewers, I had no trouble placing the reverse osmosis membrane in the top canister. However, the yellow hose that delivers water from your source does not screw in, but has a pressurized fitting that is prone to leaking when the system is first turned on. We're using the device outdoors so this isn't an issue for us, but if you're using it indoors you'll need to figure out how to fix it. The hose needed a washer inside to reduce/eliminate leakage from the joint. I already had one on hand. I could probably tape the connection as well, but 1) I'm done and 2) we're using the tubing for other purposes so it seems to wear out pretty quickly with prolonged use. Again, this is outside so minimal waste is acceptable. The fill time seems very slow at first. When you turn it on for the first time, wait 15-30 minutes before panicking when you don't see water flowing from the blue hose. It took several minutes for the water to fully filter through the system and start coming out. The TPS meter indicated that the first batch of water was at or below 010 and subsequent batches were below this baseline. Once you use the system, you will find that the filtered water fills up faster. Our gallon jugs seem to fill up in about 10 minutes and 5 gallon jugs in 80-100 minutes. Maybe it's just that we turn it on and then do other things while it fills up, but it doesn't really last that long. All in all a very economical RO/DI filter option, especially for water installations. We bought an internal system that required a moderate install to connect and decided to pick it up and order it instead. We're glad we did. Storing the "grey" water that comes out of the red pipe in a container and reusing it for plants or whatever is just as easy as sending the blue water to a "filtered" collection container. when you can't bear the thought of wasting all your water. We're doing the whole process relatively close to a couple of potted plants, so we just stick the red tube into the pot and let it drain.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Hard to say
