It makes a little noise, but shaking, you can stop. Flow is pretty strong at max settings in a 10 gallon tank. He's pretty small. Some of the fittings are junk and don't match up (the one for venturi bladders or whatever or the air line looks like a tee that's too loose to be useful). My existing outlet tube slipped right over the supplied straight plastic tube and the clamp is very tight. For the price it works very well for me. I'm only deducting one star because I know how frustrating it will be for aquarists hoping to use bait.
