In late July 2017 a $6 JB Water Weld rod saved my old but new 40ft boat from flooding after a 5/8" through bolt sheared off. The sudden appearance of a highly undesirable new water feature erupting about three feet from a hole in the hull below the aft cabin of my houseboat was somewhat unsettling, but I immediately thought of the JB 3 and 1/2 water welding rods I had when I got the boat bought it, I added it to the Emergency Supplies in the Equipment Closet. need to charge them, can only last so long. While epoxy is forever. Or hell, mostly. managed to pull the boat out for refitting and repairs. (Including adding a backup bilge pump, lol.) I've already stocked up with three more JB Water Weld sticks. I've also used Water Weld at home for many years to fix a table saw locking handle, a leaking lawn mower fuel tank, plumbing jobs, car repairs, broken kitchen utensils, countless little knick knacks, and a leak in the bottom of my pool. The table saw repair worked so well that I was able to use a guide attached with high shear to the epoxy center arm/handle to make cuts to 1/32 inch accuracy for over an hour. a decade before I gave up the saw. It probably still works great, and I've kicked myself a thousand times for giving it away because new ones are so cheap to make. Apparently nowadays it is usually better to glue something old than to buy something new. The pool renovation was still holding 10,000 gallons of water when I sold the house 12 years later. As with any adhesive it is very important to read and follow the directions and the better you prepare the surface the better the epoxy will work. The first time I repaired a table saw with Water Weld I did it carelessly and the repair failed after a few years. My fault, not the epoxy. But the second time I did everything right, prepared the surfaces properly, and it took more than ten years. My very smart mother introduced me to JB Weld Original Epoxy 40 years ago and I have long been a satisfied user of their wide range of products including JB Weld Original, Steel Weld, Wood Weld and of course Water Weld. Wood Weld was also very comfortable on the boat, but Water Weld gets additional credit for literally saving my boat. My house. And everything in it. Thanks very much! :)
