My old hair roller wobbled and vibrated - it got stuck in my wife's very long hair pretty quickly too! The new roller eliminated vibration and made the vacuum cleaner quieter. The design of the new roller looks like it will prevent hair from clogging the mechanism - time will tell. This reel has no belt grooves, but that's not a problem and the motor doesn't make any noise. One big difference I noticed was that the old roller was a lot heavier than the new one. I don't know if this affects performance, but it's definitely a lot less stuff!
