Superb Charcoal Pencils

These charcoal pencils are great. It's great to have soft, medium and hard for detailed and loose drawing. If using charcoal, it is best to use charcoal or pastel paper as these have serrations that pick up the charcoal better than smoother paper. If you use smooth paper you won't get many charcoal stains. When you're done painting and want to save it, you'll need to apply an artist's fixative to it. The tips of charcoal pencils often break when sharpened with a sharpener because the charcoal is very soft. It's good practice to use an X-acto or other similar art knife to flatten the tip by stroking down away from you. If you want, create the dot you want by rubbing the dot on the sand block. Artist sand blocks are really inexpensive and consist of a small wooden shovel with sandpaper sewn on. Time. Also, hairspray can end up costing more than an artist's fixative. And you don't have to buy the most expensive one. I am very happy with this set of charcoal pencils and impressed with their quality!
