I bought several of these for different purposes. One thing I made is a small meter that shows the volume on my home theater receiver since the receiver is in a closet where I can't see the display. The other is the motor temperature monitor for my 3D printer. The Arduino is pretty much standard hardware at the moment, but for the price-performance ratio it's a good choice. As I think about it, I should probably add a few more of these to my cart.
