Quality product. It has a double-walled plastic lid; the inner wall is adhesive and the outer wall is heat-shrinkable plastic. When heated, the plastic shrinks (3:1 ratio) and the adhesive (polyolefin) melts to form a good seal. Crimping is best done with a ratchet crimp tool applying the correct amount of pressure (see below). The kit includes a wide range of crimp terminals, both in type and size (9 types in 3 sizes). The double crimp saves space when things get spooky, like on a boat or on a secluded car ride. I carry crimp terminals in a smaller container to save even more space. A set of 540 crimp terminals is sufficient for most general purpose applications on a boat or car. This is the best round terminal kit I've bought. There is a difference between a single wall crimp and a double wall crimp, the double wall adhesive gives a stiffer result with less movement but also improves overall strength. If you have vibration issues (like in the outback of Australia or Africa) it may be better to use a single wall crimp connection as it reduces damage caused by waves/vibration by allowing more movement to reduce the damaging effects of the bellows . Choose the best option for this job. CRIMP TIPS A few tips for making good crimps: 1. Buy quality terminals like Wirefy.2. Purchase a good wire stripper, such as the IRWIN VISE-GRIP 2078300 Self-Adjusting Wire Stripper or the Klein Tools 11063W Katapult.3 Wire Stripper. Purchase a ratchet crimping tool. Using a wire stripper, strip the wire to the desired length (note how much faster, easier, and better quality a wire stripper is compared to pliers). Match the Wirefy connector to the thickness of the wire (important for a good crimp).6. Place the correct color terminal in the crimping tool. I gently close the crimping tool to fix the paint on the terminal without squeezing the terminal, then insert the wire into the terminal and press the crimping tool.7. Using the correct dye size and proper placement of the terminal in the dye is very important.8. A ratchet crimp tool applies the right amount of pressure to make a great crimp.9. Use an electric/butane heat gun to shrink the plastic cover and melt the adhesive. I heat until I can see the crimp seal and some glue comes out of the plastic cover. Wirefy terminals are translucent so you can see through the plastic to inspect the seal.10. Let cool down. work is done. Check crimp.11. Common crimping errors are: a) mismatching wire size to crimp lug, b) using wrong color for that type of lug, c) incorrect placement of crimp lug in jaws.12. exercise is important. Develop good technique before using crimps in real life. I have cheap terminals and old cables, and I practice to get good technique before I really get to work. Try single and double wall clamps and see the stiffness differences mentioned above for yourself. The initial cost of tools may be high, but you will be able to use them for a lifetime. On a job I did on my machine, the tools paid off. Too bad I didn't bring them years ago! Buying larger kits like the 540 Wirefy saves money. I split the terminals between me and two friends - we all have a choice and a big saving. Buying terminals in small sets is very, very expensive. I've found more uses for crimps than I originally thought.
