Review on Fluval A7551 CO2 Indicator Kit by Sarah Moore

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Another case of fluid leak - but seems to be working now

I've read reviews on this kit and noticed that a lot of people have had problems with fluid leaks. I've just started using the Fluval 88g C02 kit and wanted to know how much CO2 is going into the tank. I have been operating tank systems for many years, but avoid CO2 mainly for cost and maintenance reasons. The Fluval kit allowed me to get CO2 relatively cheap in the short term, so I could decide if I wanted to keep it long term. So I wanted a simple verification program without having to mix solutions or review charts. This set seemed to fit the bill. I left it in the tank for about 3 days before noticing the liquid was gone. Filled up again yesterday and the same this morning. My first thought was that I did something wrong and that this device is subject to user error. I checked the receiver for leaks and adjusted the height of the checker thinking that might be affecting the pressure. . Obviously there is a flaw in the design of this device that causes it not to work for many people. I'll try again, but if it leaks again I'll have to find another solution. Update: After putting liquid in the tank a second time, I decided to try again. When refilling the tank, I took extra care to ensure the cap was securely closed. I twisted and squeezed hoping the gasket would seat better. Apparently it worked because. There hasn't been a leak in the last week. The unit now appears to be working as intended but as it has failed twice I am only updating this rating to 3 stars. Even if it was user error, the product seems to have a bug, especially since I'm not the only one with this problem.
