Review on Optimized Centering for Snappy Hinge Bits by Michael Vargas

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Good centering clamp, garbage bits.

As a center router for joinery, this product was fine. The mounts themselves are a bit stiff, and the centering land could be a bit wider for more accurate centering. Unfortunately I had the problem that the actual drill bits that came with the centering jigs didn't seem designed for use in hardwood or were quite brittle. My 5/64" bit broke after about 120 holes. A replacement bit costs at least $12 after shipping from the OEM. So, wondering if it was just me, I surfed the internet. After reading reviews, I found Reading other sites I have come to the conclusion that others have reported that the bits break after light use Save yourself the hassle and buy a vix set I have been using one of these for years, borrowed from a family member and never had a hit, good track record compared to 2 weeks with this kit unfortunately I was trying to save a few bucks and now I have to make up the difference by buying a fresh bait that will probably break just as quickly .

Pros
  • Drills precise holes for hinges, handles, drawer slides, etc.
Cons
  • No instructions
