Worked on a 1997 GL1500 SE, check and test your build before installing on the bike.

The rubber membrane is bent because it was folded before it was put in the box. I didn't think there would be a problem after installing it. I rebuilt the automatic fuel valve, reinstalled it and the bike started. Couldn't start a 1997 gl1500 SE in a week, spent a lot of time troubleshooting. Finally I removed the automatic fuel valve but there was no gauge, I almost ordered it then I thought. DUH, just do a simple test. So here's a test, put a little hose on a little nipple, see if you can suck and it clogs, you can put your tongue on the end of the hose and see if the diaphragm works. right he should keep the choke. Watch out, be careful, it will take a while. In my case I tried this test and it failed. From what I understand the valve serves to BLOCK the flow of fuel from the tank (through the fuel pump) to the carburetor when there is NO intake. As soon as you suck on the small nipple, it opens the valve and the fuel can flow. I reopened the valve, reinstalled the parts, reassembled and the suction test worked. Then I vacuumed for the second test. to my small hose, bent the hose to close off the intake, then checked the pressure at the outer larger nipple (inlet from the fuel tank), the valve was open. noticeable and the valve was closed. This time the valve worked. Here is a screenshot of the vacuum test using a small hose. I could save a lot of time and hassle if I just tested it first. Another suggestion: take photos when you disassemble the device. . It would be easy to install something the wrong way.
