Review on πŸ’‘ Belkin 1-Outlet Home Series SurgeCube: Reliable Portable Wall Tap Adapter for Versatile Power Protection: White, 1080 Joules by Brendan Thorpe

Don't buy one, buy three!

This is the best surge arrester of its kind and price range available. Don't just buy one, you must buy at least three. Let me explain why. Most surge protectors use a device called MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) that absorbs the energy of the spikes, but typically the device only has a MOV between hot and neutral (HN). This device has three MOVS that provide three-way protection: MOV between HN and between voltage and earth (HG) and neutral earth (NG). Please see the first photo for packaging specifications. Very few consumer jammers at this price point have three-way protection. The amount of pulsed energy, or burst, that the MOV can absorb is measured in joules. This device offers 1080 joules of total protection, which is not bad. Compare it to other devices. Here's an important point: no device can guarantee the absorption of any amount of energy at any voltage level. There are many types of switching devices besides MOVs, but they all have some limitations such as response time, clamping voltage, and power consumption. There is always the possibility that a surge voltage with sufficient energy will destroy the protection device and the devices connected to it: there can be no absolute guarantee. Those who gave poor ratings to this Belkin device may have experienced such an increase. Here's why you should buy 3 or more: Connect two or more surge protectors in series! I always plug them straight into the wall, and then I plug in another surge protector, e.g. B. a protected socket or a UPS, directly to this device. NO, this is not a problem or a violation of electrical codes. They don't increase the amount of current drawn from the outlet, they just increase the number of surge protection stages. But beware: NEVER connect one UPS to another UPS! The UPS should only be connected to a passive surge protection device such as this Belkin device. The more surge protection levels there are, the better the protection. For example, for my high-end computer server station, I plug this Belkin into a wall outlet, then a line conditioner (constant voltage transformer based device) to this Belkin device. then I connect the UPS (uninterruptible power supply) to the linear conditioner. , then connect the junction box with switched outlets and other types of network air conditioners to the UPS (see photos). The junction box has 3 types of devices: MOV, solid-state surge arrester and gas-filled surge arrester. did you count them This is (at least) four stages of surge protection with 5 different types of surge protection if you include the UPS active circuit as one of them (which may have additional stages of protection). I feel like I have a pretty good system that reduces most spikes, but I'm not stupid enough to believe that my surge protection configuration can handle any surge: the next lightning strike can surely destroy all devices. Those who buy one of these Belkin devices and think it's all you need, think again! Buy three so you always have one on hand as a first surge protector. Then connect another surge protector to Belkin for even more protection. But never Then connect another surge protector to Belkin for even more protection. But never Then connect another surge protector to Belkin for even more protection. But never
