I've mentioned in some other reviews that my bike gets miles fast so needs some pretty decent gear. A problem I often encounter is broken glass, yard waste, or other similar road debris that people accidentally or intentionally leave on the bike path. Sometimes the problem gets worse after it rains because all those sharp pieces of glass are now clean and ready to be pierced by something soft rolling on them. Now you can get multiple apartments in one day. I usually carry 18 patches and 2 spare tubes just in case. Enter Re-Fuse tires. In fact, these are the first tires I've bought with reliable puncture protection. I used to have other, more expensive tires, mainly for cyclocross, but they never saved me from a puncture. Some of them actually felt so sticky that they held on to things that other tires didn't bother to say hello to. failed and even flattened my front tire. Needless to say, I finally got those bad guys on my bike. It was a close call between Velocita and Re-Fuse, as far as I can tell they only offer a slight difference in tread design for the same price. Once fitted, I immediately saw that these tires were unlike anything I had before. First, it is a tire roll. They roll so smoothly that even with the micro-tread, they feel smooth. In corners, the transition from the center to the side of the tire is incredibly smooth and the grip is surprisingly secure. They're great on the road as long as it's dry. Wet weather is another beast, but while they don't fare well in the rain, I still found them to be fairly durable. Working downtown during the day there are many slippery sections that can cause traction issues when it rains. My bike was surprisingly grippy on slick concrete sections that usually caused some slippage. The microtreads also made an odd noise in the water, sort of a slight hum that made it look like the tire was stuck to the concrete. Be careful with wet metal, especially large metal grilles. This was the main issue that made me slip a bit, but nothing major. Now it's a trash-free ride in the rain. Wet vegetation (leaves, garden clippings, etc.) can cause these tires to completely lose traction for a few seconds and depending on how you drive them this can be quite a problem, so be careful. Debris? The tires are much more forgiving, especially at lower tire pressures. I tried light trail riding and was quite impressed with the ride quality and grip they had. They may not have the grip of a good cyclocross tire, but they do a good job. Now for my favorite feature – Flat Protection. I was initially a bit skeptical about flat tires so, like my old tires, I avoided any road debris mostly out of habit. As my tire confidence grew with every ride, I began purposefully driving through trouble spots to test the limits of this "MaxxShield" technology they were using. So far I have had these tires for several months without a single puncture. There were splinters of glass, nails, staples and all sorts of things trying to get through the protective layer but nothing worked. Even when a particularly sharp and troublesome piece of glass is poked into the tire's outer shell, it seems to stay in place effectively. Basically if you mainly ride your bike on dry ground. I expect based on their past performance they will last a fairly long time on my bike and wouldn't hesitate for a minute in buying another set of these tyres. These are 5 star tires for what they are made for. In my experience, there is no better tire in your price range.
