This is how pointers work. but the mix is โ€‹โ€‹important.

I was afraid to spend $58 on this thing. and when I used it to patch up some 70 year old failed mortar joints I was disappointed. because the grout is clogged in the large opening of the applicator tip. Having the grout mix ready to use, I poured it out of the cylinder and applied it to my work using a spatula and seam shaping tool. I was willing to return the product for a refund. While at Home Depot, I noticed that the mortar bag had been opened. I felt the dry mix and found that there are far fewer grains of sand in this mix than in the original mix clogging the gun. I bought a pack of this product, took it home and experimented with the TP gun. It turned out that with the original Quickrete mortar mix, the sand grains used are not of a constant size and not fine enough, which mixes with a heavy coarse mixture and clogs in the TP gun. The new Sakrete Type-S grout uses fine, almost powdery sand and is mixed with the included mixing tool to a grout with a consistency very similar to peanut butter. In one of my experiments. I added too much water to the Type s Mortar and it clogged the gun, causing water to leak from the butt end of the tube. After realizing I had lost water. I poured the wet mixture back into the mixing jar, stirred and put it into the TP gun and it worked fine. It is important to clean the gun immediately after use. A small amount of silicone grease at the end of the mortar tube makes it easier to remove the application tip. In my opinion, you have to learn to use this tool effectively.
