I formatted the disk as bootable, it works fine. However, switching to the locked position writes data to the (Master Boot Record) which causes a permanent change in the bootloader and prevents booting. This isn't a problem if you're just trying to prevent accidental file overwriting or deletion. But it's terrible if you really want to download these files from USB. In short, great as inexpensive write-switched storage and even as a boot drive if you never use the one thing that makes this drive so special.
