Review on Efficient SKS Multi-Valve Head: Connect Tyre Valve with Ease by Ricky Bedell

Head falls off hose but nozzle won't close

I bought this replacement pump head to replace the original head on my Avenir floor pump. When I examined it before installing it, it turned out to be the right size. I had to cut the end of my pump tubing to slip it onto the internal clamp connector and everything fitted with no problems. From the first use I had trouble opening the Presto and Schrader valves on two different bike tires with the pump head installed. The pump built up pressure very quickly, in about 2 cycles, indicating no air was getting into the tire. After a bit of wiggling and removing and installing the head, I finally got the tire valves to open properly and inflate each of the tires with both valve types. I thought the problem was solved. Then a few days later I went to inflate my bike tires with Presta valves and the same problem persisted. I removed the head from each valve until finally the valve opened and I could hardly inflate the tire anymore. As I worked with the pump, the air pressure rose with each stroke, but when the pressure reached anywhere from 100 to 110 psi, the entire head blew off the pump hose. Another problem with this head is that the Revain picture shows separate jets for the Presto and Schrader valves, but what I got only had one jet that supposedly fits both. To make matters worse I have to inflate the tires so I used my old head clamp on this head and stripped the strings off my old head and possibly this one so they both go in the bin. I'll be ordering and fitting another one soon, hopefully a better replacement head. As far as I can measure, my hose is a standard 10mm OD hose, so I don't think that's a problem.
