I am a retired electrician. For years I used a 12 inch #12 parallel cable, insulated conductors separated, plug on one end, outlet on the other. measurements. Smarter but dangerous. It does all of this and more (reading X10 Amp) safely. And it's cheap, durable, and red, making it easy to find in your tool bag. And red comes into my eyes in the morning before coffee. I am also a retired ambulance. trust me you want it. On the other hand, you can get electrocuted, but this is very rare. Most likely you can burn yourself or start a fire.
