Beware of strong chemical smell

I bought three of these Pioneer photo albums and when I opened each I smelled a strong chemical smell. I decided to air them out to see if the smell goes away and so far I've kept them by an open window for about 8 hours. The smell has of course become less intense, but it's still there. If it doesn't go away I'll send them back. I have 20 of these Pioneer photo albums that I've bought since about 1990, but bought the last two in the mid 2000's. I would buy them at craft stores or camera stores. The last two were in the closet for 15 years. So during Covid-19 my project is to get the rest of our photos organized and organized into albums and I needed more albums and have seen them here at Revain. I'm really shocked that they have that overwhelming chemical smell as the others I've bought have never had any issues. This is really disappointing. Update: I aired out the photo albums for 3 days and the smell really went away. So I kept adding my photos and then noticed a strange taste in my mouth. I licked my finger two or three times to open the plastic and it spoiled my taste buds for days. I don't know what those pages say, but I started to get really concerned when this went on for more than a few days. Then I went and wiped each page. It was a ridiculous effort. My old Pioneer photo albums were made in the Philippines. Made new in China.

Pros
  • Aged gold embossed faux leather cover and round spine with matching color PHOTO ALBUM emblem
