If you want to network computers for file sharing and networking. If you are short on time and money. If you're afraid to ask your geek friends for help, then this product is for you! I bought this device around November 2000 despite my geek friend taunting me, humiliating me and criticizing my "stupid purchase". I'd say this is the only time I've been right and I've been using Linksys ever since. Why change proxy software every few months and/or face constant updates (not to mention a waste of time). Why run a "proxy/internet" computer 24/7? With this Linksys you only pay per device and connect to as many computers as you want (no license restrictions). You can turn each computer on and off as you wish, this will not affect internet sharing. Connect a printer with a built-in network card and you have a dedicated network printer. What a genius! Excellent for protecting your computer from outside intruders with built-in firewall protection. Easy to use and configure via the browser. When you have broadband, you don't pay extra for each connection to your computer. The secret is to connect and share it through the Linksys router. (Be careful though some ISPs don't support LAN setup) Of course I have to use wireless. Of course I was spoiled with this device instead of learning how to set up a DHCP/NAT/proxy and firewall, but who cares? As long as it works, it works. If it ain't broke, why fix it?
