Review on πŸ”Œ Cisco-Linksys USB100M Fast Ethernet USB Network Adapter by Joe Garczynski

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great product, USB 2.0 is coming soon!

When I worked in PC repair, freelance consulting and network administration, I found out that I had the opportunity to update the customer's antivirus software (usually if the virus program is faulty, it is in the process of installation or initial upgrade), it's nice to be able to connect to a high-speed connection even if a person's computer doesn't have a network card or even a modem. I've also used it to troubleshoot existing connections (this NIC has LEDs so troubleshooting is fairly easy, although you may still run into 10/100 issues. Don't be surprised if your hub is amber instead of green. This means your connection is only running at 10Mbps instead of 100) and bypassing bad network cards. Because it's portable, it's my personal tool kit, really only consisting of what I use often enough to justify the limited space. The maximum speed for this product is 12 Mbps. That said, if you're using it to connect to the internet, it'll probably work just fine (on most internet connections, you'll be VERY lucky if you have even a 1MB/s connection), but for a network, it will almost 90% slower than a standard network card). I recently received a brochure about the long-awaited 2.0 version (which runs at 480 Mbit/s, although I'm not sure a 2.0 network card will run that fast. At least I'm guessing it will be 10/100), but I'm still not sure when that will be released. As for the durability of this product, it is a bit fragile. but I've had mine for over six months now and I haven't had a single day of trouble with it. Treat it with care and it will serve you for a very long time. If you're in repair, I'd suggest one of these and a USB drive of at least 128MB (I've always tapped mine for 64, although 64 is still great for pulling drivers from your working machine onto one that probably will the Internet is not connected, or pull a sample of the corrupted file back into memory for analysis.
