Review on CDI Electronics 113-2453 Power Pack for Johnson/Evinrude Outboard Motors - 2 Cylinder (1977-1984) by Larry Lackings

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Already dead upon arrival! for parts

I bought this CDI ignition module for my 1982 Evinrude 35HP. With all new CDI wiring harnesses. The only reason I had to replace it was because the wire insulation had dried out the rotted bare wires on the back of the ignition module. I've been using CDI for years in my auto shop and in some ship repair shops. And got a bad CDI a few years ago for a pro athlete's outboard customer on his 200hp Evinrude bass boat. the day before the great turning point. He lost in it and made me look bad. But not my fault. CDI has always been my first choice. Cheaper than OEM, but I always recommend OEM when it's available and you want to spend more money. With good customer support. And fill out CDI troubleshooting books. And the great literature that comes with the new modules. They even have their own tech facility! Where OEM and other aftermarket don't. It's like hard drives. I can't even remember how many dead hard drives I've bought over the years. And some of them still work perfectly for more than 10 years, I think that goes for all electronic devices nowadays. lower quality control, faster production is not good. And companies like CDI have a good reputation because of their good history. I will change this rating to 5 stars when I get a replacement CDI ignition module and have reliable spark. I am updating my review on 09/06/21. I installed the replacement CDI ignition module and got great spark right away. The exchange lasted about a week. But no problem replacing the CDI ignition module with a 1982 Evinrude 35hp CDI 113-2453. From 1 to 5 stars even though I had to wait for a replacement.
