Review on 🔪 Cut Through Anything with the Milwaukee 49 56 9050 8 Inch Hawg Cutter! by Brian Whitmore

Revainrating 3 out of 5

good for soft wood

Contrary to what is shown, the hole saw does not come with a socket or center drill and this very deep hole saw requires a longer center drill than usual. The Milwaukee wood pilot bit works very well and is the only thing they do for Big Hawg bits. The pilot bit is made of carbon tool steel, so it dulls very quickly—after just a few holes in chipboard, but Milwaukee includes a tiny diamond sharpening tool in its kits. Cutting is very fast, most holes take less than 15 seconds, and the cut piece of wood comes out easily. I've had the best results with a 1000 rpm, 18 volt cordless drill. Milwaukee recommends setting the speed low, but the hammer works best when the speed is high enough to cut through knots without stopping. If the cutting speed is too low, the cutter will easily stop the drill or increase the likelihood of jamming, and if you use a powerful bolt drill, it will not be a pleasant experience. 3 cutting teeth make this cutter smoother and faster than Lenox One Tooth. While they cut well on most common woods, HSS teeth dull faster in MDF than carbide teeth like Blue Boar and Starrett cutters. BLUE BOAR 4-5/8" (118 mm) TCT 2-1/4" Multi-Purpose Tungsten Carbide Auto-Fed Hole Cutter with 2-1/4" depth outperforms self-feed bits and bi-metal hole saws.
