The good thing is that this filter is very powerful and circulates a lot of water that does great aeration and cleaning. The downside is that it is a very expensive service. It uses a single replaceable filter cartridge that collects all of the water and clogs very quickly, limiting water flow to the point where water actually fills the back of the filter and flows through and around the filter cartridge without actually being filtered. If the cartridge is easy to clean, this may not be a problem, but while it can be washed, it's dirty and doesn't clean completely. I've read reviews of people adding a washable sponge layer in front of the carbon filter, which can be a bit bad for avoiding costly replacements. This filter is not quiet either. I can deal with the sound of running water, but the motor is quite noisy compared to other filters of a similar size, and sometimes the body itself starts to vibrate and I have to adjust the plastic cover. I do not recommend this filter if your aquarium is in the bedroom and you are a light sleeper. Luckily my two sons don't wake up when the plane hits our roof so they don't mind the sound of the filter.
