Let me review my trip to Mount Olympus. I'm an award-winning full-time professional photographer who switched to Olympus after 4 failed Nikon shots in a row. We are all aware of Nikon's quality control issues lately. I've had a lot of Olympus cameras, Fuji cameras, and Sony cameras (I'm a mirrorless guy). I've mainly been shooting Sony lately, but was disappointed with the range and prices of the lenses. Don't get me wrong, Sony lenses are superb and the Zeiss 55mm f1.8 has become a legend for me and many others. However, the smaller selection of lenses and the incredibly expensive glass for the range I needed made me consider this Oly 40-150mm lens. Where has this journey taken me? Well I sold all my Sony gear except for one camera and lens and pretty much went back to all Olympus products. I mainly shoot weddings, commercials and family portraits and yes the Micro Four cameras are really good. I'm so sick of the sensor size argument. I've shot in every light with these cameras and they blew me away. Best of all, Olympus glass is exceptionally good and most lenses won't cost you a penny. Also, you can get nice bokeh and depth of field with these cameras. I mean really good. Good enough to earn wedding photography awards and most importantly, the respect of my clients. Now about this lens. This 40-150 lens is a game changer for the M43! Yes, it's that good! Good enough to make me want to sell my Sony gear as I mentioned. This lens will go down in history as one of the best lenses of any manufacturer. The build quality is exceptional. The contrast is more than beautiful. Bokeh oily smooth. Even wide open, the sharpness is unmatched. Best of all, the lens is compact and lightweight for a 40-150 f2.8. Yes, it's expensive, but if you're looking for a lens that gets the most out of a Micro Four Thirds sensor, look no further. Olympus cameras are incredibly fast and with this lens on my OMD-EM1 I will never miss a frame or have a blurry image. Never had a problem with the back focus (have you heard it's a Nikon?). If you are serious about photography, get this lens. It will amaze you. A note. Nikon and Canon reps ask me, does it strike you as odd when you come to events with smaller cameras and equipment? No I don't know and in fact the retro look of the cameras has generated more great conversations than I can count and my back hasn't gone away by the end of the day. Don't be afraid to shoot the micro four thirds. Yes, a full frame sensor gets a bit more dynamic range etc, but if you know what you're doing these cameras work just as well. These cameras really make photography fun again and this lens is legendary. Happy shooting and sorry for my incoherence.
