A brass hammer locally was the same price as this entire kit. Reading reviews I noticed a trend of the hammer head breaking off the handle, so I chose this one that looked like it had a stouter connection. I used the hammer and punches (both steel and brass) to punch out the front/rear sights of my Ruger 10/22. I didn't have a vice so I put a book under the front of the barrel. I had to beat the dickens out of it, but it finally came out (yes I was going the right direction) without anything breaking or (severely) deforming. The brass did have noticeable marks on the hammer and slight mushrooming on the punch, but nothing I didn't expect or will prevent future use.
