Review on ๐ŸŽฎ Kootek PS4 Vertical Stand with Cooling Fan & Dual Controller Charging Station, USB HUB & Dual Charger Ports โ€“ Slim/Regular PlayStation 4 Compatible (Not for PS4 Pro) by Ryan Hart

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Seems to be working for the most part.

Basically I bought this to increase the capacity of my USB as I used 1 charge controller slot, 1 headphone slot and also need 1 external hard drive. My standard original PS4 fits well in the hole, remember the controllers don't need to have a rubber sleeve to fit the charging dock. As for the fans, I see them loud in many reviews, but my unit is less than 5ft from me on my gaming desk and I don't notice any irritation, especially since I'm wearing a headset. My unit seems to be running cooler now, I used to feel hot air around it but now I don't feel it except a bit on the back of the PS4. Now to the reason for my lower rating: USB ports. I plugged in my headset and although it seemed to work initially, eventually it starts cutting me out of the chat options and although I can hear the gameplay I am unable to use my voice chat. I thought something was wrong with my headset but I bought a new one a few days before. I plugged the headset back into my PS4 and had no problems. Now I have to play certain games while my external hard drive is unplugged because I just can't trust this device's USB expansion slots to work with HD, especially when they can't handle a basic headset setup. As a result, I cannot use this device for the main purpose I bought it for and that is very disappointing. I honestly don't know why the manufacturer designed advanced USB ports when the only thing they seem to support is just a charge controller cable. I may need to look for alternatives for my USB expansion needs. UPDATE 2/6/2019: Extended USB ports no longer work, not even for charging my controller. I don't know if the built-in charging stations work, but I don't care about them since A) I can't use them once I've skinned them onto the controller, and B) I basically need my controller to charge in the middle of one game. .Looks like the fans are still running so I think that's a good thing. I only recommend this if you only need a vertical stand and maybe have 1 or 2 extra controllers that you want to charge with another. As for extended USB, super weak, barely charges my phone (VERY slow charging) and neither my controller nor drive nor headset benefit at the moment. Basically, I've now plugged the device's USB port that was used to connect to my PS4 into a power outlet, allowing me to continue using both native USB ports from my PS4.

Pros
  • I hold my fists
Cons
  • Hard to say
