This hub *can* connect multiple external hard drives to a single WD MyCloud NAS hard drive!

I bought this USB hub to enable WD SafePoint backup of my WD MyCloud (WDMC) drive to multiple external hard drives. Every night at midnight I update the "local" SafePoint and once a week I update the "external" SafePoint on a WD Passport External Hard Drive (WDPP) that I keep outside of the office and bring home for backup once a week. I keep a USB 3.0 cable plugged into the WDMC drive's USB port and plug the WDPP drive into it when I bring it home. My "local" drive used to be connected to the USB port on my Linksys router. However, when that router died and I replaced it with a NetGear router, the WDMC control panel couldn't "find" my "local" drive on the LAN. I need to connect it directly to the WDMC USB port. I don't want to change cable connections every time I want to back up on the go, so I bought this mains powered USB 3.0 hub hoping to avoid that. Every night at midnight I update the "local" SafePoint and once a week I update the "off-site" SafePoint on an external WD Passport hard drive that I keep outside of the office and bring home for backup once a week. The WD Passport drive has no external power supply; It is powered by the USB port. That's why I bought the external power supply version of this product. I had no idea if this would work, but I was thrilled when the WDMC management console found the SafePoints on both drives and was able to update both with no issues. The only caveat is that the eject button on the management console doesn't detect the presence of external drives through a hub. So you have to decide when you can safely unmount a drive. The best timing I've found is when the WDMC drive or externally attached drives go into "sleep mode" after a period of inactivity. It remains to be seen whether this element will stand the test of time, but the initial tests passed with flying colours. I will update my review if necessary.

Pros
  • Hands-free
Cons
  • Very expensive
