I use a "car helmet " on my tiller
I own a sailboat and needed some long bungee cords to stabilize my tiller when I'm (alone) going forward. Those long bungee cords will do the trick. They reach to the sides of my cabin and are easy to adjust. The flat shape makes it easy to use; they don't roll or slide. They don't last long in the sun. I had a season of these before the exchange, but I happily bought a second set. Longer than regular cords, flat to prevent slipping, a pair allows you to adjust things evenly.
