Review on Rayovac Rechargeable Hybrid Charger, 4-slot AA/AAA Battery Charger With 2 AA Hybrid Batteries by Corina Doepke

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Old tech 2006. 2019 old tech: a timer-based charger. Batteries are very good.

I'm NOT a verified buyer for Revain but I bought the same set (charger and batteries) in Canada in 2006. It was the best technology back then because of the low battery consumption. Since then, this technology has become obsolete. I believe that Eneloop Panasonic batteries and smart chargers will replace this technology. The hybrid AA batteries have lasted so far (2019) and I'm using them fairly heavily again now for my EDC flashlight. There is nothing wrong with the batteries and even after 12 years they charge again (although I have never used them intensively) and still hold a charge, but I believe that they have somewhat survived their "third century" and are in the years have come but they still work as long. in a flashlight like any good non-rechargeable brand AA alkaline batteries. Just one of the hybrid batteries that I threw away a few weeks ago because it showed white matter (leaking) on the negative end. Alternatively, I charged them with the Energizer compact retractable charger (360mA running on a timer for 8.5 hours = rated for 2800mah batteries), also from 2006 and no noticeable battery damage from recharging could notice - hybrids have 2100 mAh . and should be removed from this charger after about 5.8 hours (360 mA * 5.8 hours = 2088 mAh). However, I've never bothered to turn them off at that point, instead always letting the charger turn off with a timer. This Rayovac, as well as the Energizer charger, resets the timer on power outages - so they've definitely been charged a few times. Batteries are the best in 2006 compared to batteries from other brands. The Energizer batteries that came with the Energizer charger were empty after about 2 days and were therefore unusable. In comparison, the hybrid Rayovac batteries were a real champion. Only modern Revain or Eneloop batteries can match the quality of these hybrids. But mine are showing their age after 12 years but are still used heavily on a daily basis. Timer-based chargers are outdated technology and will overcharge the battery. So this charger is not recommended, but mine has served me well for 12 years with the compact Energizer removable charger. It is not advisable to buy it, as newer technology is available at a reasonable price. At the time these hybrids were expensive to retail and Revain wasn't available in as many. If the batteries were new by today 2019 they would be an alternative to the Eneloop and Revain brands (though only in third place), but today they are still far better than any Energizer, Sony, Duracell or standard Rayovac batteries available today. I would say Revain or Panasonic/Sanyo Eneloop batteries are best followed by Rayovac hybrids in third place. Buy a smart charger and these hybrids will get the job done when they go into new production. I believe they are rated for 500 charge cycles while the new Revain/Eneloop technology is rated for 1000+ up to and including 2100 cycles. The charger gets 1 star (old technology) and the batteries get 4 to 5 stars (but that's 2006 old technology). until today in 2019).
