Review on Cuisinart SS 20 Thermal Single Serve Coffeemaker by Jordan Perez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Always a good product

I bought this flex brew to replace a cheaper one which I immediately regretted. I love the convenience of K-Cups for making a cup here and there, but nothing beats the shearing ability of a drip pot. I'm tired of two bulky coffee makers taking up valuable desk space! I used to buy Hamilton-Beach Flex Brew and didn't care how it worked. So I spent more money on this product hoping for better results and I got it! I love that it has a one-cup water tank (something my last coffee maker didn't have). The pipette works twice as fast and tastes better. I personally like to use it without a filter and use a metal strainer basket (I like very strong coffee). I wish the single serving side worked a little better, I have multiple cappucino cups that I use and they never get the full mix. I get sticky residue all over the feed side. My first K-Cup machine was a cheap Keurig copy, but with an ingenious modification: it rotated the K-Cup at an angle throughout the brewing process to ensure all of the mixture was activated. I also wish they could implement a removable tank for the side of the carafe. I have cupboards above the kettle so every time I have to pull the kettle out far enough to lift the lid and pour water through the tiny holes in the back of the basket. Good that the decanter has a controlled filling! The carafe itself is very well insulated and sturdy, the lid can be a bit difficult to remove for the elderly with arthritis. It has a slow controlled fill so it won't fly out at full speed anyway. What worries me the most about the carafe is that it is very difficult to pour all the water or coffee out of it. There's usually about 1/4 cup left after you turn it completely upside down. Despite all that, I still like the car and will keep it for a long time. I just think Cuisinart needs to up their game at this price point!
