Review on Flex Lite 238 Flex Wave Electric by Jeff Henkhaus

Revainrating 5 out of 5

No more cheap fans from China.

I bought cheap ($35-65) cheap fans from China for my 8.1 liter Chevrolet Avalanche 2500 that I converted into two 16" fans many years ago. These fans say they pull 3,000 cubic feet per minute, but few have done so. They serve about two years at best and fail much sooner in most cases. Because they don't pull the air they're advertised as, I've consistently encountered overheating issues that the Big Block Chevy has while running the AC in the Dallas, Texas summer heat. As if that wasn't enough, I couldn't tow my 6,000 pound trailer in this heat. There just wasn't enough airflow through the heatsink, even with both cheap Chinese fans mounted on a custom shroud. Even when I redesigned the shroud to make it taller and position the fans further away from the heatsink to narrow the air intake area zoom in, I saw only a slight improvement. I broke down and bought two Flex-a-Lite 3000 CFM 16" fans and installed them in my newly made case. . I wasn't sure if the wave fan design is quieter or pulls 20% more air, but it Works! Last week I was driving my truck to and from work (I usually drive a commuter car) and in a 95 degree afternoon heat with air con and center fan the truck never got to 170 degrees! I have a 160 degree thermostat. This one too Gossip that these fans are quieter than straight blade fans is true! When my windows are up I can't hear them. With the windows down I can hear them but hardly. With the old cheap fans I could hear the whine even with listen with the window open. It remains to be seen if these fans will slow down like cheap fans have over time and last longer than a year or two. I've noticed that all cheap chinese fans have the same motors but not this one. The design of Flex-a-Lite motors is very different from cheap fan motors. Hopefully that means they last a long time.
