There is a strong plastic smell when opening the box. My wife was concerned, but my son, who are these boots"I was excited - he said he smelled like new boots! They seem quite sturdy and thick, and the handles are a great way to help him get dressed I'm not sure if they are too big or just uncomfortable but after wearing them for a while he found them difficult to wear and finally decided he didn't want to wear them again.
