First, the quality of the fabric and tailoring is the best. I am 5ft 4ft and 120#. I ordered a large one. Just a bit big but very comfortable to sit on. The fabric is soft and feels comfortable. So for shopping, walking, relaxing and general comfort I would say a high 5! If you need more social features, food, socializing, etc., consider the middle option. It all depends on the height, weight and shape of the body. But once you get it right, I have a feeling you'll almost "live" in these spring, summer, and fall hiking shorts. For unmatched comfort I would definitely recommend them. I'll add here when I wear them I find that the yoke at the back adds comfort to the hips and "butt”. Also the zippered pockets are of good quality and secure when needed. I live in "shorts" in the summer, but at 93 I can't wear 8 inches anymore, so I'm comfortable with those 10 inches in the summer.
