Good Bike Bells - Bike Bells

Like many others here I bought a couple of bells, one for my tandem bike and one for my mountain bike. At a hefty price tag of a pair for six so three to a call I had pretty high expectations of this, laser machined, high precision, engineered calibrated etc etc. Imagine my surprise when I found out there was only one is flap made of plastic. on a small metal bell. Shock! Disturbance! Don't people appreciate a dollar anymore, well, three?! *laugh* For the price, they're good. They attached to the handlebars of my tandem bike very easily. It sits a little tighter on my mountain bike because the handlebar diameter is a little larger. So if you have custom handlebars, a custom bike, or something fancy and are considering a $3 (seriously?) bike bell, it might be wise to measure your handlebars first to see if those inexpensive ones will fit. specified in the description. Mine are pretty standard, nothing fancy or fancy, and they fit great. My bike slipped and landed on the bell. It shifted the metal bell and only rang when I tightened the bell, after which it worked again. So it seems tenable to me. Two caveats: the plastic panel flexes easily because it's plastic. Immediately my wife bent one of these when she tried to ring the bell so I had to bend it back and now it works so-so. As someone mentioned, flick the tip to ring and don't push it like you would a lever or button. I'm not sure I would have put it on a kids bike if they hadn't been shown how to ring it. I don't think my kids would have the dexterity of their fingers to click it. But now that we know how to do it, it's very easy for us. Second, MAINTAIN THE BRASS NUT when installing or moving it. The design is pretty clever: the nut goes into the plastic and holds it in place while you tighten the bolt. But it's small, so if it falls, be sure to catch it! The sound is high, pleasant and harmless. I double click. people are funny. Some struggle to get out of the way; some older people, probably hard of hearing, cannot hear it; and a few simply refuse to move. But for most "normal" people, calling works great. I would recommend it as good value for three bells.
