UPDATE: I disabled everything and redid all settings. The device worked normally all night. Went to work and came back with 5 dead chicks and 132 degrees on the meter! It was still showing heat! It is set to trigger at 1 degree in either direction. If the unit indicates it is off or in "coolβ mode, the heat lamp/warmer socket is not powered! The device worked flawlessly for about 5 days. she was set at 90 degrees in the chick brooder for her heat lamp. switched off at 91, switched on again at 89. Did this for the first 5 days. Just got home it still says it's set to 90 but the lamp was on and it was 125 degrees! I lost almost all my chickens! The "cool" light was on, but the heat lamp was still on. The lamp was plugged into a heating socket, nothing was plugged into a cooling socket. Pulled the plug out of the socket and plugged it back in and the lamp went out. Now I can't use it because I can't control it 24 hours a day. Dissatisfied!
