Because layer feed is expensive, I ferment it to make the nutrients more bioavailable so the bag stretches longer. AND BOY, IT WORKS! I've had some other foods that just didn't ferment well, had a lot of grits, and didn't taste as good to them. But this one is definitely superior. When fermenting this food, make sure you leave ENOUGH headroom or the food will "foam" and push the liquid up as gas bubbles form. My ducks and bantams LOVE this fermented feed too, they leave nothing behind even when there is a full duck feeder nearby. I just wish it was available locally and in larger packs so some of the costs could be kept down.
