LAUGH PHOSPHATE AT!
As soon as I started using this product in my reef tank the phosphates were off the charts. Every time I changed the filters, the red goo came back. Seachem customer service was helpful in tracking down the issue. Now I only use them "Renew" as an alternative to carbon. This stuff works well (and quite well) in freshwater, but DO NOT USE THIS IN A SALTWATER SYSTEM. If you are not sure about your charcoal, take a small amount. , shake it to get distilled water, then leave it for 10 minutes. Use your extraction water phosphate test and it will fall off the chart.
