I prefer blinds for many reasons. Blinds get dusty and difficult to clean. I've always had spiders that nest in honeycomb colors, so I avoid them too. Roman blinds are too bulky for my rather large windows. Shades are as simple and clean as interior window coverings for privacy. I can then add curtains if I want to liven up the window or leave it open for a very clean shaker look. If you're like me and don't even consider the ugly plastic versions available everywhere, then check these out. The material is shinier than I'd like, but I doubt you'll find anything better unless you're willing to pay the price to order. I leave aside the question of whether the mechanism will be permanent, as I haven't had it long enough to know. It was difficult to keep the curtains down. I have found that when the curtain is fully lowered it stays in place. Then I can gradually bring it into the desired position.
