Review on πŸŽ₯ HAUPPAUGE HD PVR Pro 60: High Definition 4K Capture and Streaming Device with PC Connection - Perfect for Zoom, Skype, YouTube Live, and Twitch! by Phil Casey

Revainrating 3 out of 5

I used to like the Hauppauge

I was a PVR 2 user in the days of the 720p/1080p transition but switched to a different USB powered external device when I switched from 4k Pass Thru to 4k HDR -TV. When I saw HD PVR PR0 60 on the market, I decided to try it. The overall impression is disappointing, especially with broken features. What it will do: -- Pass 4k to TV/monitor despite not supporting HDR. At least that's what my XBOX ONE X tells me. -- Create beautiful 1080P TS format output with Hauppauge Capture. -- OBS Studio will recognize the device and produce good MP4 output. What it won't do (at least for me): - Create good MP4 output with Hauppauge Capture. The output is actually jerky and completely unusable. Providing headset audio when I plug the headset cable into the headset jack and the controller cable into the controller jack. Before anyone asks, I used the correct cables. As I have very little confidence that the headset mic will work. - I will not update the firmware. I've followed obviously incomplete instructions to no avail. I downloaded the bin file and unzipped it into the zipped folder. Although the online instructions said the zipped folder contained the bin firmware file and instructions, the only file provided was the bin firmware file. There is a lack of attention to detail. The instructions didn't say whether I should install the device on a PC or a card, so I tried both. The card seems to be the preferred choice as the PC instantly puts the device in an online state. When switching to the card, in most cases the device did not recognize the SD card and when recognized did not start the firmware update, but went into a ready-to-write state. One more note. The latest competitor 4K USB devices can update firmware directly to their device from a PC file. Using the latest generation SD card absolutely does not work in my case. One more note about the MP4 format. The fact that OBS Studio successfully captures MP4 and writes directly to MP4 tells me that the MP4 problem with this product is not with the device but with the capture software. This needs to be corrected. Also, the USB-CA cable is a meter long, which is unusable for me with my setup - XBOX, monitor (4K HDR TV) and laptop 4 feet apart - but the laptop is used by me for other purposes as well . Things. I don't want to keep unplugging and plugging in the device because of the short cord. Please note that competitors supply a 2 meter power cable. I'm glad I have it. Bottom line, if I want to stream and record in MP4 format, I can use the OBS studio setup with an external (second) microphone for myself and ask my bandmates to link their party chat to the stream (XBOX party -Feature). So the HD PVR 60 Pro can be used, but the built-in audio jack function does not work, the firmware update process is either incorrect, not fully documented, or simply does not work and is outdated with today's technical possibilities, and the software does not support any direct recording output in MP4 format, and oh, that short cable. I can work around these issues with the exception of a firmware update, but I can't really recommend the product as it is. When the identified issues are resolved I may change my mind, but so far I'm very disappointed.
