They were replacing the OXO Good Grips set of plastic measuring cups because over time and washing the painted numbers came off making them virtually unusable. I expect these stainless steel measures will last a long time. The handles are flush with the bowl so you can fill and sweep away without hitting the joint. This was an important consideration in America's Test Kitchen measuring cup tests and ratings, and it was an important consideration for me as well. I also wanted measuring cups in all six sizes: 1/4, 1/2, 1/3, 2/3, 3/4, and 1 cup; Many movements remove bars 2/3 and 3/4 but I find that I fill 1/3 twice to get 2/3 and the same problem with 3/4 is a waste of time.
