I would give it 5 stars but for a toaster this expensive you would think the crumb tray would be well constructed and just the right size for collecting crumbs. But no, firstly the plastic overhangs on the tray bars fell apart during assembly and they had to be glued. Worse, much worse, the metal base is 1/4" shorter when it slides in, leaving 1/4" of room at the back, perfect for the continuous stream of crumbs falling onto the counter. Do you mean that seriously? Am I the first to notice this? Or did I accidentally stumble upon the only defective tray ever made? FYI if Duralit is reading this, my tray measures 6-5/8" front to back, but with the little ribs it only slides 6-1/2" while the opening at the bottom of the toaster is 6-3 Customs service. /4". ARRRGH So if I can't get a new tray from Duralit I guess I'll make my own, not what I expected with the supposedly best toaster in the world. Okay, so what should I do? How well, I love the fact that the toast stays in the toaster until you open it yourself to keep the toast warm. I love that you specify exactly how many slices of toast you are toasting. No heat loss." Love that weight and style. And while I thought I hated the egg timer sound it makes when toasting, surprisingly I just can't hear it. It's not as loud and less annoying than the big bell at the end of the cycle on the last The Cuisinart I had. I'm willing to live with it because I know it (allegedly) means it's a longer timer , and it adds to the weirdness that I set the timer AFTER I nearly burned my house down! Yes, the timer stopped mid-cycle and continued frying. We removed the toast because the timer didn't emit a click, so we reasonably assumed it had ended. BUT then we noticed a burning smell and realized the toaster was cooking the bottom of our wall units which felt very hot. There is a high risk of fire. I've never unplugged my toaster after use, but I think that's why Duralit now prints "Unplug power after use, risk of fire" on the timer dial. LOL I think if you're selling a crappy timer that's likely to set your house on fire, that's a pretty fair statement! Oh, and now I have to pay $48 to replace the timer. Alternatively, I could send the toaster back and wait a couple of weeks for the service, which of course I'll have to pay for anyway. Damn, I like this toaster, but.
