Review on πŸ’Ύ Compact Memory Card Case for Pelican 0945 Flash Cards - Black by Veeravelu Tang

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A nice upgrade from the previous version, but the latch is too difficult to open.

A few years ago I wrote to Pelican and asked if they could make their memory card cases a bit bigger to fit more cards. They did it, but they didn't make it as big as I hoped. However, 6 CF cards now fit into the thing. What struck me about their new design is that the inner card holder is no longer rubber but rigid foam. From my experience of placing cards in perfectly formed pits, I've found that the foam can wear down over time. As this is new to me I can't say for sure so I'll have to check it out and see. If there's an update to this review, you'll know something is wrong. The latch on the new covers is now VERY DIFFICULT to open. In a way, that's good because it means your cards are secure. The seal around the case also keeps out unwanted moisture so if it falls into the closed compartment it will float to the top keeping your cards dry. This is great, especially if you are out and shooting in the wild, in a pond or swamp, or even in the rainforest. Comparing the sleeves, I see that the new sleeves are about 10% larger than the old 4th card version. I'll upload some photos so you can see what I mean. As for quality, if you've ever watched Pelican product test videos you know they're designed to be dropped from great heights and survive. These covers are durable. I'm just interested in whether or not the bolt becomes easier to open over time. At the moment I have to use my whole hand to open it, while the older model only needs one finger. However, I strongly recommend everyone to get this as it is well made, durable and a great value considering what it is protecting (your precious pictures).
