I bought these for $169 during the Black Friday sale last year. Since I've always wanted good binoculars, I couldn't resist such a great price. While I've never heard of Vanguard, my decision was based on reviews here and elsewhere. I have to say that I don't regret the purchase one bit. The quality is evident without even looking at it. You can tell that Vanguard put a lot of thought into the design and choice of materials. When I left them out in the rain overnight, the eyecups filled with water. All I did was pour out the water and they worked great! I use them for daytime observing and for observing the night sky. They are an excellent choice for both. Compared to typical Walmart binoculars, the difference between day and night. They don't make me feel like I want more, if that makes sense. No blurring in any part of the field of view, colors are excellent. They are transparent. The focus knob is a little touchy but I like it because I can focus quickly. For observing the night sky I would recommend a tripod adapter that I made myself, but Vanguard sells one here on Revain. I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone looking for good binoculars.
