I was disappointed. I had two problems. The image of the subject required 1) very precise focusing and 2) wasn't as sharp as expected. These ED 1042s don't have much depth of field compared to my other binoculars - Nikon, Tasco, Busnell, Celestron and Zhumel. The final image sharpness was not as sharp as my Monarch 5 binoculars. Last year I picked up a pair of these and 8x40 Nikon Monarch 7s. now it's my car binoculars, and if we're both looking, my partner's binoculars. She prefers them to Nikon binoculars because of their slightly higher magnification; I prefer the Nikon feel in hand, the extremely wide field and great depth of field.
