I recently moved to a place where the previous owner used sticky contact paper liners for every shelf/drawer in every closet in the house. They were in poor condition and needed to be replaced. When I pulled them out, I found I had a whole day's project to remove the residue (one of those fine-grit sandpaper sponges turned out to be the solution). After that I definitely didn't want to use contact paper, so I ordered this one. It's not sticky at all, so if sticky is what you're looking for, try a different product. I'd say the back is slightly rubberized, sort of like a non-slip mat to keep it in place. However, it is easily taken off the shelves and does not resist. Leaves no trace. I recommend trimming with an X-Acto Utility/knife. I used a ruler to measure, mark cutting lines, and as a guide for the knife. I used a large, flattened piece of cardboard as the cutting surface. Overall the end result looks great and provides a nice clean washable surface for my stuff. The only downside is that I think it's a bit more expensive than some of the other options. But overall this is exactly what I was looking for.
