Review on 🧡 Tandy Leather Stitching Needle 10/pk 1195-00: High-Quality Crafting Needles for Precise Leatherwork by Dawn Fischer

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Neither strong nor durable - UPDATE: Found a better needle

Bought for a leather quiver I am making for my daughter. For most of the sewing I used a regular light tapestry/doll needle (not made for leather) and it held up great, but I needed a shorter needle for the inside curved areas. So I bought them as a package. I use 8oz leather and pre-drilled all the sewing holes so there is very little pressure on the needle when sewing. However, I already have 3 of these needles right where the shaft meets the eye and I have a significant number of stitches left to do (needles don't last very long). As there are 10 needles in the pack I have to do this but will definitely look for a different brand next time. Reading other reviews I see that I'm not the only one who had this problem. Maybe this is a quality control issue and I received a bad package? UPDATE: 9 out of 10 needles broke before I could make a 30" stitch (stitches 3/16" apart - I used a saddle stitch). Another reviewer mentioned John James needles as a better alternative, so halfway through I bought a size 3 pack (John James Glovers needles, size 1). Having tried 9 oz vegetable tanned John James needles with thick goatskin (equivalent to 6-7 oz leather, only 15-16 oz / 1/4 inch!) I have to say I will never buy a tandy. needles again! I only wish Revain would carry their line of saddle pins (blunt tip) and not just the glove style. Another flaw I've noticed with Tandy needles is that the eye isn't smooth on the inside. Because it is not properly finished, burrs and rough edges will cause tiger thread to tear when sewn.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Can't remember

Not a replacement for "Stitcher Awl" Needles!
