Break easily, skip them and look elsewhere.

I am very surprised at how quickly these needles broke. In just one project (a holster) I broke four of these while doing a saddle stitch. They always break in the eye, so this is clearly a weak point that needs strengthening. I'm surprised Tandy gave them their name.

Pros
  • Keep my fists
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Does not replace "Stitcher Awl " needles!

Revain bundles this item with a sewing awl and like an idiot I didn't read carefully enough to make sure I was buying what I needed (replacement number needles). However, these needles are excellent, cheap and durable! The way I love my coffee! I sewed myself a new sewing palm and these needles are tough! Rawhide, it won't tear! Most needles break in the eye when I subject them to thoughtless insults. Some even using my fingers! I see many sails and rigs sewn with these needles both in…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Too long to wait

Good for general use

These are quality needles for leather that gets stuck between a box and a boot. You may need an awl for thicker leathers, but for the most part they should be able to handle most leathers you can throw at them with a finger push (thimble, glove, etc.). With thicker leather, you usually drill holes with an extra tool, so there is no star deduction for this. I will buy again if they inevitably get lost or bent from use.

Pros
  • Highly rated by testers for grip and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Good quality, ideal for leather work

GREAT for leather work! I used to use a glove needle for sewing leather, but with an awl and these needles there is no need to use a SHARP glove needle. The rounded tip won't catch on the edges of the hole created by the awl, so working with thick leather is now much easier. They have a REALLY rounded tip, so they're not great for piercing skin, they're only useful after you've made a hole. I was impressed with the quality of the metal they are made from: I was expecting them to be brittle and…

Pros
  • Absolutely stunning!

  • Not bad but...

Neither strong nor durable - UPDATE: Found a better needle

Bought for a leather quiver I am making for my daughter. For most of the sewing I used a regular light tapestry/doll needle (not made for leather) and it held up great, but I needed a shorter needle for the inside curved areas. So I bought them as a package. I use 8oz leather and pre-drilled all the sewing holes so there is very little pressure on the needle when sewing. However, I already have 3 of these needles right where the shaft meets the eye and I have a significant number of stitches…

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Can't remember
