OMG. I really wish I had listened to the bad reviews about the awful chemical smell. So many good reviews I figured not everyone gets smelly carpets. So I hoped to get lucky myself. Oh boy I was wrong. Here I will tell you how my husband got rid of this smell. This rug was the only one I could find in stock in the size I needed. We moved into his bedroom with our 1 year old and I really wish he had a soft carpet in his room. It was packaged very nicely and was quite heavy. I liked the carpet! It is nice and soft, you can lie on it comfortably. The color is bright and beautiful. I like it so much! BUT! Odor! The smell was very, very bad! Before we all started coughing! No ventilation would make even a tiny difference! After airing for a week or more, I started searching the internet for ways to get rid of the smell. My research led me to a specific product that helps get rid of chemical odors. We rented a large vacuum from Home Depot. This product was granular white. I followed all the instructions (of which there were many) and ended up vacuuming. It took a long time to dry and after all that the product was still in place because this rug is so thick. The smell hasn't gone away but has subsided a bit. At this point I told my husband I thought we should bring him back as I had tried everything I could think of. And then he said let's try something else. And that's how we got rid of the smell. My husband hung the rug outside in our garden and first rinsed it with water. He wanted to leave it there for a while until the smell went away. Spring. it was in winter! 🤦‍♀️ It rained on him, it snowed on him, the wind threw him to the ground. Many times we couldn't lift it because it was frozen to the ground 😁 As soon as we did it I said I wanted it inside and then it snowed again! And so on and so on and so on. I think it was 2-3 months out 😁 BUT! After that the smell was gone! Haha! We didn't seem to give up. So here's how we got rid of the smell and are now enjoying this rug and I love it! I would give it all 5 stars but I'm only giving it one because the smell is so toxic it's unbelievable.
