I've had bad experiences with eSun Silk Silver 1.75mm. When I first received it I printed this swirled piece in vase mode and it looked great (see below). I searched the eSun website for more information and found the following: Best Printing Temperature: 190-20℃ Base Temperature: No Heat / (60-80)℃ No Heat? For real? Ok I'll try. I use Magigoo for most of my prints so I left it on my bed and didn't heat it up. My first print curled a little, but not much. The print job stopped after a few hours - probably not the filament's fault, maybe some sort of heater core failure. So I will not count this error. My second big print failed after a few hours. Apparently the extruder is clogged. (I use the 0.4mm E3D cupro-nickel tip). I noticed a few discolored spots. So I cleaned everything and oiled my car, but I didn't change the temperature - I used 215C, which is under the max. This thread shows a strange retract function. When I push a few millimeters out of the nozzle, it doesn't hang straight down like other filaments. It stretches and gets fat - looks like a corn dog on a stick! Strange. My third big print came off after a few hours and became a mess. I noticed a slight twitch on all of these prints and adjusted some of the settings and also recalibrated my extruder. For my fourth large print, I set the bed to 50C. No more frizz and it stuck well. But. after many hours he stopped eating. This time the extruder didn't clog, I twisted the spool slightly and it started feeding again. I tried restoring the print job but it didn't work. It seems that the thread is badly wound on the spool, causing one layer to stick under the other. I've rarely seen that. Even after adjusting many parameters (erasing, drawing in, etc.), the surface is still shiny and discolored. Look at the bumps and streaks in the image below. The vase test seems to have fooled me as it was a continuous extrusion with no start/stop. I have enough left on the roll for one more try for the job I bought it for. Four failures so far, only one of which seems to be due to my car. Depending on how that last try turns out, I feel like I wasted most or all of the role.
