Review on Upgrade Version Glass Bottle Cutter by Fixm - Square & Round Bottle Cutting Machine by Hannah Curi

I tried the round bottle only version first and was able to cut an 8" cylindrical candle holder down to just over 6". Then I saw that there was a version that also works with square bottles and I got it (sent back the first bottle - the company was very nice and the email customer service was very good). So far I've only tried trimming a square jar with this second version (Kensington Mayonnaise), which is more difficult than cylindrical bottles. The device works very well but you need to develop some dexterity/technique: the strength of the pressure, the angle of the blade, how often you switch between hot and cold water (depends partly on the thickness of the glass I think). . I still get vertical or sloping cracks that go below the line I'm aiming for (they show up in hot water - you can't see them beforehand), so I try to be flexible with the height I want, and I have several the same bottles of it, so that I can refine the technique. The metal frame of this second glass cutter is slightly warped so the rollers are not level; They're slightly lowered, maybe 5 degrees or so. I don't think it affects performance and hopefully I can straighten the bezel over time, but I didn't notice that with the first gadget. In a word, a great tool for needlework. However, if you have a valuable piece of glass that you wish to modify, I would probably take it to a professional. Just don't give it to a glass and door mechanic - they only have circular saws that cut through glass (I speak from bad experience). I did want to add that after a few more uses the buckling of the metal frame straightened out. .
