Hybrid water boots + deck boots

(Updated August 24, 2020) I downgraded to 3 stars. These shoes are just uncomfortable even after wearing them for some time. I just can't get used to the feeling under my feet when walking. (Original review) I really like the look of these shoes and the quality is definitely there, but they just aren't that comfortable. While it's true that some boots take some time to "put on" before they're really comfortable, these shoes seem to be one of them, so I'll give it a little more time. The sizing seems accurate and the width of the shoe is just right for an average foot width like mine. However, if you have a very wide foot, you probably need a size up or just skip it. One of the shoes I received had a small tear on the inside of the heel. The damage can be seen in my photo as a bunch of black spots on the heel, in fact these are small burns in a thin grid. I would really like to know how the Frogg Toggs quality control department missed this as it was literally the first thing I saw when I opened the package. (PROS) - Quality materials and construction - Overall design is fantastic, very attractive - Very light weight which I think is a big plus. Can get wet and be worn in water without damaging shoes (CONS). It feels like wearing wet water shoes even when they are dry. It's a strangely soft feeling with every step. This is less noticeable when wearing socks. This shoe is NOT breathable. Of course they have holes in the bottom for water to drain, but everything else is dense waterproof materials that don't let heat/moisture through. These shoes make your feet sweat, which only adds to the soft feeling mentioned above. Foam midsole (yes, there are rubber patches). I'm not a fan of foam soles (on all shoes), it does make shoes lighter, but this material has never been suitable for use on shoe soles unless fully covered in rubber. . In my experience, this type of foam sole can be dangerous (risk of slipping) as the shoe can become very slippery on wet surfaces once the oil has soaked in. YMMV

Pros
  • Cushioning memory foam for all day fishing
Cons
  • High price
